I. Analysis Types and Modules#
EMSolution can perform magnetic-field analysis including eddy-current analysis, which is basically quasi-static magnetic-field analysis, as well as electrostatic analysis. Select the analysis type in the [input control file]().
Analysis types#
EMSolution supports the following analysis types.
- Static magnetic-field analysis
Can consider linear and nonlinear magnetization properties for coils and permanent magnets. Does not consider eddy currents.
- AC steady-state analysis
Frequency-domain analysis including eddy currents. Can consider linear and complex relative permeability.
- Transient analysis
Time-domain analysis including eddy currents. Can consider linear and nonlinear magnetization properties, mesh motion, mesh deformation, and COIL source motion.
- Steady-current eddy-current analysis
Steady eddy-current analysis for a conductor uniform in the direction of motion and subject to a constant magnetic field.
- Electrostatic analysis
Electrostatic analysis with applied potential or charge
- Steady-current analysis
DC current analysis of conductive regions with applied potential
- Low-frequency induced-current analysis
Eddy-current analysis for cases with very low frequency or very low conductivity, where the induced magnetic field from eddy currents is negligible compared with the external magnetic field.
Coupling functions#
The following analysis functions can be coupled with magnetic-field analysis.
- Coupled equation-of-motion analysis
Couples electromagnetic force in mesh-motion or mesh-deformation regions with equations of motion. Coupling with springs, dampers, and similar components is also available.
- Coupled electrical-circuit analysis
Couples analysis with electrical circuits connected to coils. Current-source and voltage-source analysis can consider resistors, inductors, and nonlinear components such as diodes and switches. Electrical circuits can also be calculated alone.
- Coupled analysis with external software PSIM and MATLAB/Simulink
Coupled analysis with electrical circuits and equations of motion defined in external software
Note
External software coupling is available in supported versions. Contact us for details. MATLAB and Simulink are registered trademarks of The MathWorks, Inc. PSIM is a registered trademark of Powersim Inc.
Electromagnetic properties#
EMSolution can consider the following electromagnetic properties: - Isotropic and anisotropic linear electromagnetic properties
Isotropic and three-direction anisotropic relative permeability, conductivity, and permittivity.
- Isotropic and anisotropic nonlinear magnetization properties
Isotropic, three-direction anisotropic, and two-dimensional anisotropic nonlinear magnetization properties (B-H curves); laminated cores (homogenization method); and hysteresis (Play model and Jiles-Atherton model).
- Temperature dependence of isotropic nonlinear magnetization properties and conductivity
Uses B-H curves and conductivity tables for each temperature.
