Input Files#
1. Text Input Files#
This chapter describes how to run EMSolution on Windows.
The following text input files are used when running EMSolution.
input : Data other than mesh data, such as execution controls, boundary conditions, material-property definitions, and source definitions. You may choose any file name.
2D_to_3D : Data for extending two-dimensional mesh data to three dimensions.
pre_geom : Three-dimensional mesh data, including node and element data.
pre_geom2D : Two-dimensional mesh data.
rotor_mesh : Three-dimensional mesh data for the moving part in sliding-motion analysis.
rotor_mesh2D : Two-dimensional mesh data for the moving part in sliding-motion analysis.
deform_mesh : Three-dimensional mesh data for the deforming part in deformation-motion analysis.
deform_mesh2D : Two-dimensional mesh data for the deforming part in deformation-motion analysis.
Mesh data files use different extensions depending on their file format. Store these files in the execution directory (run_dir). Output files are also written to the same directory. During a restart, some output files from the previous run are used as input files.
Note
The input file is always required. Whether other files are required depends on the options in the input file.
EMSolution can read several mesh file formats. To identify the file format, EMSolution requires the following extensions on mesh data file names (pre_geom, pre_geom2D, rotor_mesh, rotor_mesh2D), depending on the input format.
ATLAS format: no extension (.atl)
NASTRAN format: .bdf (.nas)
I-DEAS Universal format: .unv (.ids)
KSWAD format: .ksw
FEMAP neutral format: .neu
CADAS format: .cad
The extensions in parentheses are supported but not recommended. For example, a three-dimensional NASTRAN mesh file is named pre_geom.nas. See Chapter V for details.
2. The input.json File#
Starting with version 2024.11, JSON format is supported in addition to the conventional fixed text-file format for input files. You may choose any file name, but it must use the .json extension.
Important
JSON format is available only in version 2024.11 and later. The conventional text format remains available, but JSON format is recommended.
When you run EMSolution with the conventional text format, an input.json file for redirection is generated. Edit this file to create input data in JSON format.
