Running on Windows

Running on Windows#

Running from the GUI#

  1. Launch EMSolution.exe, for example by double-clicking it.

  2. Open the file dialog from “File” → “Open”, then select the input file.

  3. After you select an input file, the analysis begins. When it finishes, a completion dialog appears. Select OK to close the dialog. You cannot run the analysis more than once in the same window. The displayed graph shows the convergence status of the ICCG method.

  4. Output files, including the output file, are created in the directory that contains the input file (run_dir). Several intermediate files, including restart files, are also created. Delete files that are no longer required. To perform a subsequent restart, keep all files unchanged unless there is a specific reason to remove them.

Batch Execution#

Run the following command from an MS-DOS prompt.

[EMSol_dir\]EMSolution.exe -b [-v] [–m] [-d run_dir] [-f input_file_name]

Here, [ ] indicates an optional argument. The executable must be available on the PATH. Alternatively, specify the executable together with its path, including ”EMSol_dir”.

  • -b

This option is required for batch execution. If it is omitted, EMSolution runs manually through the GUI.

  • -m

A window appears and displays execution progress. The window closes automatically when the job finishes. If this option is omitted, no window is displayed.

  • -d run_dir

Specify the absolute or relative path of the execution directory. If it is omitted, the current directory becomes the execution directory. Therefore, run EMSolution from the directory that contains the input data. End the directory name with (a backslash).

  • -f input_file_name

Specify the name of the input file. If it is omitted, the name is input. The file must be stored in the directory specified by -d.

  • -v

Displays license information (available in version 2024.11 and later).

Note

If the executable directory name contains spaces, enclose it in double quotation marks. In that case, write each backslash inside the quotation marks as \. For example:

C:\Program files\ssil\EMSolution\bin\EMSolution.exe

For consecutive runs, create and execute a batch file (xxx.bat). The following is an example batch file (datbatchtestbatch.bat).

batch.bat#
start /wait “C:\Program files\ssil\EMSolution\bin\EMSolution.exe” -b –m -f input.1 -d dat1\
move dat1\output dat1\output.1
start /wait “C:\Program files\ssil\EMSolution\bin\EMSolution.exe” -b –m -f input.2 -d dat1\
move dat1\output dat1\output.2
start /wait “C:\Program files\ssil\EMSolution9.0\bin\EMSolution.exe” -b –m -f input.2 -d dat1\
move dat1\output dat1\output.3

In the example above, the executable is stored under C:\\Program files\\ssil\\EMSolution\\bin. The execution directory contains dat1\\directory, which contains input.1, input.2, input.3 and the other required input files. EMSolution analyzes each input file and saves the corresponding output files as output.1,output.2,output.3. When you run analyses consecutively in the same directory, output files are overwritten. Rename and save any files that must be retained. start /wait is required to start the next job only after the preceding job has finished (behavior depends on the Windows OS).
